My country celebrated its birthday recently. The 31st of August, 2008, marked 51 years of independence from the British government. We fought for freedom together: the Malays, the Chinese, the Indians; all of us.
I watched advertisements of happy children’s faces – the ubiquitous trio of Malay, Chinese and Indian – grinning and linking hands; the usual fare they dish up every single year.
I can only wish it were true.
They disgust me. Not the children, but the advertisements that blatantly try to promote the idea that we tolerate, love and respect one another, regardless
